Applications and Uses of Sorbitol

Sorbitol, or glucitol as it is sometimes called, is a slow-metabolizing sugar alcohol derived from fruits, corn and seaweed. It’s a sugar substitute found in foods such as frozen desserts, sugar-free chewing gum and diabetic candies. Sorbitol is only about 60% as sweet as sugar, however. It is also used as a thickener and moisturizer in beauty products.

Sorbitol is widely used as sweetener, humectant in food production. As sweetener: in candy products to provide sweetness. As humectant: in bread and cake to keep fresh and soft.

Sorbitol is widely used as Diuretic dehydrating agent and sweetener in Pharmaceutical. As Diuretic dehydrating agent : in injection to reduce intracranial pressure and prevent cerebral edema. As sweetener: in Oral Solution to be diabetes’ sugar substitute.
